Nortorious Spirit (Poem To B.I.G.)

Today, the world honors another year to the late yet great—Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace). He was murdered in 1997 and the plot of his death still remains a mystery.
I’d like to contribute my piece and share my love for the fallen star who will forever shine bright in our hearts, our mouths and of course—our iPods.

In the dark silhouette of the night, we feel the vibe and rhythms of your words holding. Pulsating through our veins.
This chocolate child—So urban yet so poised.
Dripping with sweat. Dripping with love.
Love for the mic.
Love for the words of tantalizing surprise and surreal urban life to suffice.
The Langston Hughes of hip-hop.
Caressing the flow.
Discombobulating haters with the sound of his vocal apparatus.
Uplifting the underdog of the inner city. Giving them confidence. Giving them joy. Embracing their circumstances and striving for more.
The streets still cry for you.
Oh, Notorious spirit take the mic.
Though you’re not with us we’ll still breathe your words to LIFE.
The throne is still yours. You’ll reign supreme.
Rise of a king. Plotted fall.
Rise of a star. The universe burned us all.
Your body returns to the ashes and marinates with the dirt.
But your spirit, oh Notorious spirit – you walk this plain. You walk this earth.
Reign.
